Been a while since my last update here, but that’s me on the boat heading to the mainland to start my journey to London for the British Gas Great London Swim 2011. This is part of a series of open water swims, mostly a mile long all events are open to the masses, and there are even showcase races with elite mens and womens waves featuring some of the biggest names in swimming, such as Thomas Lurz and Kerry-ann Payne.
Tonight my journey takes me as far as the Ramada Hotel at Glasgow airport. In the morning I’ll be flying to LCY (London city airport) with British Airways, hopefully in one of their nice new embraers.
Last year I was 160th out of over 5000 in a time of 26mins 17s. This year I am hoping for faster, a LOT faster! At the british masters I did a 1500 in just over 22mins in a long course pool, so should be able to do it despite a recent tummy bug upsetting my training regime. Ended up having a very easy ‘taper’!
