Beijing has just seen its earliest snowfall in the city since the late 1980s, the goverment fired silver iodide capsules into the clouds to try and augment the snow fall which they hope will help alleviate the drought in the region. When the winds changed drection bringing in cooler air from Siberia they grabbed the chance to perform the “cloud seeding” to try and get more precipitation. The snow fell in Beijing for 11 hours. Snow is a rarity in the region so the locals were treated to quite a spectacle! Although some traffic and flights were disrupted.
